Campo Verde delivers the first loss of the season to Mountain Pointe, 59-56. This game was neck and neck throughout all four quarters. Heading into this 5A matchup, Campo Verde was ranked #5 in 5A, and Mountain Pointe was ranked #3 in 5A.

The Campo Verde team was led by one of their lead scorers, Conner Tefteller, a 5’11” Junior Point Guard. Tefteller scored an astounding 27 points and hit clutch threes to cut down Mountain Pointe’s lead and secure their win against Mountain Pointe. When asked about his team’s performance, Campo Verde Head Coach Jayce Tilley had this to say:

“Yeah, I mean, our guys just work. I mean, we were down 12 going in the 4th quarter, and they don’t give up. They just work, they work. They don’t give up. Yeah, almost gave it away there. We got a rebound a little bit better. We got to get a little stronger there. But I just love our guys. Like, they just fight, they battle. Yeah, I love our group of guys.“

While Coach Tilley admitted his Junior PG isn’t new to scoring in bunches this season, Tilley was more impressed with his defensive prowess.

“Yeah, he’s been he’s been averaging around 20 points a game the last several games. Yeah, he’s he’s come a long way. He’s grown a lot. Not just offensively, like 28 points is awesome, but his defense, he had, I think, 4 or 5 steals, and coming up clutch for us, handling the pressure, not turning the ball over. Like, he’s, he can do it all. Defense, offense, like, and he’s our, he’s a leader. He’s a leader by action. And the boys follow his lead.“

Mountain Pointe struggled more than usual in this game, with some of its stars not even scratching 10 points. They are known for their tremendous defense and great inside and outside scoring. This game, they struggled a bit more than they normally do.

Despite this huge win against Mountain Pointe, Campo Verde is #5 in the 5A division, according to MaxPreps. The Coyotes now rest up before their next game on January 6 against Desert Ridge.
